Tomorrow

  1. In Touch With Music
    • Start date: Sat, February 11th 2012
    • Start time: 19:30
    • End time: 22:00
    • On Saturday, 11 February at 7.30 p.m., Amanda Michell, a former chorister of St. Mary’s, Great Dunmow, will be returning to her home town to provide an evening of entertainment. The London based horn player will be joined by other young, talented, professional musicians and the choir of St. Mary’s. The programme will comprise a variety of music composed for the horn as well as a selection of solo vocal and choral music. The programme will feature works by famous composers including Mozart and Strauss alongside works by lesser-known but no less worthy composers.

Amanda is currently pursuing a career as a professional horn player having recently completed her Master of Music Degree at Trinity College of Music, London. Amanda is enjoying working as a freelance musician, having spent the past year gaining experience as a period instrument performer with ensembles such as the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment as well as continuing her development as a modern orchestral horn player. Amanda’s other work has included playing with her brass quintet Lord Nelson Brass, playing on a West End show and a couple of TV appearances.

The proceeds from the concert will be used in the following two ways. A donation will be made to Music and the Deaf, a UK charity which helps the 1 in 7 of the population with a hearing loss to enjoy the world of music. The remainder of the profits will be donated to the St. Mary’s Church Roof Restoration Fund.

The concert starts at 7:30pm Tickets cost £10 each (£6 for school children & students) and are available from The Vicarage (872504).

For your prayers

  • Please pray for those who have asked for our prayers, and who are in various kinds of need. These include Eileen Bell, Derek & Joan Carruthers, Maisie Crow, Ray Hook, Ewan Jackson, Tom Jones, John Loughnan, Chris Martin, a young boy named Mitchell, Joseph Morris, Gill Northrop, Ann Rooney, the Rothwell family, Tom Savage, Philippa Smith, baby Scarlett, and Harold Waterman. Pray, too, for their families and those who are caring for them.
  • Please pray, also, for the family & friends of the late Eva Bartlett, David Northrop, & Gordon Wootten.

General News for both parishes (unless stated)

THERE WILL BE NO MEDITATION or CONTEMPLATIVE PRAYER GROUPS during August.

LETTERS IN PIGEON HOLES. There are important letters for all members on St Mary's Church Electoral Roll in the pigeon holes. Please pick up your copy today.

SPONSORED RIDE & STRIDE on 8th September. 50% of the money raised comes back to St. Mary's and half goes to the Friends of Essex Churches. Further details from David Rose, 873269. David will be taking part, so if you would like to sponsor him please add your name to the form at the back of the church.

FEELIE BAGS FOR YOUNG CHILDREN IN ST MARY'S: We would like to make some bags with different things in them in them which families can pick up when they first come into church to help keep their children amused and happy. Please help! Do you have spare material, ribbon or chord? Do you have toys, teddies and/or Christian story books that are no longer being used? Can you sew? If you think you can help please call me on 872995 or drop off your contributions at 14 Venmore Drive. On behalf of our young ones thank you! Jo Hargrave

OVER 200 CAKES PROMISED - BUT MORE ARE NEEDED! Thank you to the folk who have already promised to make over 100 cakes for St Mary's Cake Stall and the Refreshments Stall at the Countess of Warwick's Show on August 26th & 27th. Previous experience shows that many more cakes are needed - probably up to 300 more! Details are at the back of church. Please sign up to indicate how you can help. All funds raised support the work of St Mary's.

LEARNING TO LISTEN The Acorn Healing Foundation run very good Listening Courses. Such a Course will be held on four Thursday evenings (Sept. 20th to October 11th inclusive) at St Mary's, Stebbing. It will cost £28 per person. Contact Gillian Warren (01371 856321) if you're interested.

COURSE IN CHRISTIAN STUDIES. Would you like to explore Christian life and faith with others in a relaxed and friendly environment? Well why not consider enrolling for the Chelmsford Diocese Course in Christian Studies. What's more, starting in September, there is now a centre on your doorstep - well in Stebbing to be precise. The group will meet on Tuesday mornings from 10.00 to 12.00 led by Revd Tim Goodbody (vicar of Stebbing) and Revd Mark James. More information from Mark.

NEW MINISTERS OF COMMUNION. The Bishop of Colchester has given permission for Mary Jensen and Tish Ramsay to be added to our faithful band of Ministers of Communion. They will begin their duties in September. Please pray for them as they prepare themselves for this task.

GUIDE DOG IN TRAINING Andrew Gower is training a gorgeous Yellow Labrador puppy to become a Guide Dog for a lady who regularly attends church where she lives. He may well be bringing the dog to St Mary's to get used to being church and other confined public spaces. Please do not give the dog any attention as this will be distracting and confusing. Thank you.
