  1. In Touch With Music
    • Start date: Sat, February 11th 2012
    • Start time: 19:30
    • End time: 22:00
    • On Saturday, 11 February at 7.30 p.m., Amanda Michell, a former chorister of St. Mary’s, Great Dunmow, will be returning to her home town to provide an evening of entertainment. The London based horn player will be joined by other young, talented, professional musicians and the choir of St. Mary’s. The programme will comprise a variety of music composed for the horn as well as a selection of solo vocal and choral music. The programme will feature works by famous composers including Mozart and Strauss alongside works by lesser-known but no less worthy composers.

Amanda is currently pursuing a career as a professional horn player having recently completed her Master of Music Degree at Trinity College of Music, London. Amanda is enjoying working as a freelance musician, having spent the past year gaining experience as a period instrument performer with ensembles such as the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment as well as continuing her development as a modern orchestral horn player. Amanda’s other work has included playing with her brass quintet Lord Nelson Brass, playing on a West End show and a couple of TV appearances.

The proceeds from the concert will be used in the following two ways. A donation will be made to Music and the Deaf, a UK charity which helps the 1 in 7 of the population with a hearing loss to enjoy the world of music. The remainder of the profits will be donated to the St. Mary’s Church Roof Restoration Fund.

The concert starts at 7:30pm Tickets cost £10 each (£6 for school children & students) and are available from The Vicarage (872504).

General News for both parishes (unless stated)

LIFTS TO CHURCH. If you are able to offer someone a lift to church, have you returned Jay's questionnaire or told the churchwardens? If not, please do it quickly.

HANDBELLS FOR CHRISTMAS. 3, New Street, Wednesday 30th October, 7.30pm. A group is getting together to learn some Christmas Carols. For more information ring David Rose on 873269 or Jo Wood on 878219.

'LIGHT FANTASTIC' is an Alternative Halloween Party on Wednesday October 31st from 6.00 to 8.00pm at The Maltings, for children aged 5 to 11. Contact Jo Parker (873239) or Wendy Bowler (875863) for details.

MEMORIAL SERVICE. At 3.00pm on Sunday November 4th St Mary's will host another Memorial Service for bereaved families. Invitations have gone to about 30 families whose funerals we have conducted in the last 6 months or so. If you have members of your family you wish to remember at this Service, please complete one of the forms at the back of church and pass it on to Shirley Walker. As ever, you will be very welcome at this Service.

BOOK NOW FOR THE FISH 'N CHIP SUPPER. Friday November 16th 7.30pm (for an 8.00pm start) in St Mary's Room. Supper with friends, plus sing-a-long entertainment - all for £5.00 per person. Tickets from David & Pat Rose.

OPERATION CHRISTMAS CHILD. Over 1 million shoe boxes full of goodies were delivered last year to children who, otherwise, would not have had a Christmas present. This year, it is hoped that that achievement will be bettered. See the information at the back of church.

ST MARY'S SIDESMEN: your December Rotas are in the pigeon holes. Pick up you copy before you leave church.

ADVERTISING IN OUTLOOK. The new-style Outlook is taking shape very nicely, and will be available from early January. The Publicity Group is steadily accumulating the necessary advertising to pay for the production costs. Does anyone have contacts with local firms, pubs, restaurants, hotels, small businesses, etc. who you might be able to approach to take an advert? We really need all the help we can get to complete this task. Check with Patrick Whittick or Sally Rippon before making any approaches - this should avoid firms feeling annoyed by being asked twice.

COFFEE ROTA 28th October: Nan & John Doe 4th November: Marion & Anthony Tuttlebee 11th November: Pat & David Rose 18th November: Pam & Ray Cheal
