Upcoming events

Tomorrow

  1. In Touch With Music
    • Start date: Sat, February 11th 2012
    • Start time: 19:30
    • End time: 22:00
    • On Saturday, 11 February at 7.30 p.m., Amanda Michell, a former chorister of St. Mary’s, Great Dunmow, will be returning to her home town to provide an evening of entertainment. The London based horn player will be joined by other young, talented, professional musicians and the choir of St. Mary’s. The programme will comprise a variety of music composed for the horn as well as a selection of solo vocal and choral music. The programme will feature works by famous composers including Mozart and Strauss alongside works by lesser-known but no less worthy composers.

Amanda is currently pursuing a career as a professional horn player having recently completed her Master of Music Degree at Trinity College of Music, London. Amanda is enjoying working as a freelance musician, having spent the past year gaining experience as a period instrument performer with ensembles such as the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment as well as continuing her development as a modern orchestral horn player. Amanda’s other work has included playing with her brass quintet Lord Nelson Brass, playing on a West End show and a couple of TV appearances.

The proceeds from the concert will be used in the following two ways. A donation will be made to Music and the Deaf, a UK charity which helps the 1 in 7 of the population with a hearing loss to enjoy the world of music. The remainder of the profits will be donated to the St. Mary’s Church Roof Restoration Fund.

The concert starts at 7:30pm Tickets cost £10 each (£6 for school children & students) and are available from The Vicarage (872504).

The late Canon John Matthews. A private Funeral Service is being prepared, but please pray for Mrs Rachel Matthews and her family and friends.

Tickets for the Yankee Hog Roast and Evening of Line Dancing in the Foakes Hall on Thanksgiving Day (the 27th November) are now available from David Ainge. They cost £10 each, and the profits from the evening will go to the "Over the Wall" children's charity.

CHRISTMAS BAZAAR. St Andrew's Christmas Bazaar in Barnston Village Hall will be on December 6th at 2.00pm. Eva Percival (876510) and other church members are gathering suitable goods for sale. Any help gratefully received.

Church Christingle Service. The series of Christmas Services at St Mary's begins with the Christingle Service at 3.00pm on the 7th December. This is always a very popular Service - but there's still room for more! Encourage your families, friends and neighbours to come and share in this glorious celebration of Christ, the Light of the World.

Do you have a spare room? A young woman, now working at Croft House Residential Home in Braintree Road, is in need of accommodation for four nights (Monday - Thursday) per week. Do you have a spare room available? Would a little rent income each week help your finances? A Reference from a Roman Catholic priest is available. Contact David Ainge for further information.

A Huge THANK YOU. In the last month, St Mary's has received the promise of gifts in excess of £25,000 to pay for the necessary improvements and extension of the church heating system. The donor wishes to remain anonymous - but we give our hearty thanks for this most generous donation to the life of St Mary's.

FAITH IN ACTION's Gifts with a Difference leaflets are now available. Just the inspiration that's needed for the person who has everything!

December's Outlook is already published. Hopefully all copies will be distributed before the end of this month.
