    • Start date: Sat, February 11th 2012
    • Start time: 19:30

    • On Saturday, 11 February at 7.30 p.m., Amanda Michell, a former chorister of St. Mary’s, Great Dunmow, will be returning to her home town to provide an evening of entertainment. The London based horn player will be joined by other young, talented, professional musicians and the choir of St. Mary’s. The programme will comprise a variety of music composed for the horn as well as a selection of solo vocal and choral music. The programme will feature works by famous composers including Mozart and Strauss alongside works by lesser-known but no less worthy composers.

Amanda is currently pursuing a career as a professional horn player having recently completed her Master of Music Degree at Trinity College of Music, London. Amanda is enjoying working as a freelance musician, having spent the past year gaining experience as a period instrument performer with ensembles such as the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment as well as continuing her development as a modern orchestral horn player. Amanda’s other work has included playing with her brass quintet Lord Nelson Brass, playing on a West End show and a couple of TV appearances.

The proceeds from the concert will be used in the following two ways. A donation will be made to Music and the Deaf, a UK charity which helps the 1 in 7 of the population with a hearing loss to enjoy the world of music. The remainder of the profits will be donated to the St. Mary’s Church Roof Restoration Fund.

The concert starts at 7:30pm Tickets cost £10 each (£6 for school children & students) and are available from The Vicarage (872504).

General News for both parishes (unless stated)

FAIRTRADE in St Mary's TODAY.

CHURCHES TOGETHER UNITY SUPPER. Next Friday - January 16th at the United Reformed Church, 7.00pm for 7.30pm start. The tickets have nearly all gone. So, if you are still hoping to come, don't delay - see Pam Cheal today, and book your place. Tickets cost £5.

JANUARY SERVICE. Dunmow Day Centre, 3pm Sunday 18th January. How stressed is your life? Are you worried about a loved one or recently bereaved? Do you feel lonely? Are you often sad? Have you ever felt overwhelmed? If you have answered yes to any of these questions why not come along to a service held especially for you and others like you.

AT THE BACK OF ST MARY'S there is a box for prayer requests. If you would like us to pray for anyone, please leave your request in the box and they will be prayed for at the Monday Prayer Group.

CONFIRMATION PREPARATION. The Bishop of Colchester is coming to St Mary's on Ascension Day - Thursday May 21st - to conduct a Confirmation Service for us and, possibly, other folk from our Deanery. So far I have two youngsters who wish to be prepared to be Confirmed this year. Youngsters aged 13+ and adults who wish to take this step forward in their faith need to let David Ainge know before the end of January. Preparation sessions will begin in February.

CONGRATULATIONS TO PETER MALLETT. On Christmas Eve, Peter and Heather Murray became engaged to be married. Their wedding is likely to be at St Mary's in August - but final details are still being worked out.

PETER AND THE FOLK AT OSAKA. Please keep the members of St Mary's linked church of St Paul's, Osaka in your prayers. Peter Mallett has particularly asked for our prayers at this time; St Paul's is reviewing the format of its English-language worship and needs guidance in relation to the development of its ministry to English speaking Christians in the area.

CHRISTMAS CHARITY COLLECTIONS. The total of the St Mary's Christmas Collections, including the tax recovered from the Inland Revenue, that are given away to the 3 nominated charities (George & Marian Mills, Daybreak Drug Abuse Project, and CRISIS) was £1,939. Brilliant news! Thank you to everyone who contributed to this amount.

A huge thank you to everyone at St Andrew's and St Mary's who made Christmas so special. A great army of people cleaned, polished, and decorated our churches. Others warmly welcomed worshippers (sometimes with mulled wine!), or led the Services with their music, singing, reading or prayers. Many of our regular members brought family and friends with them to swell our attendances. And even more people cleared away after the influx of people. Thank you all very much indeed.

COFFEE ROTA 11th January: Wendy Bowler & Abigail Gallant 18th January: Helen Warren & Trudi Wright
25th January: Marion & Anthony Tuttlebee 1st February: Rosemary Ayles, Sheila Stoneman
