Tomorrow

  1. In Touch With Music
    • Start date: Sat, February 11th 2012
    • Start time: 19:30
    • End time: 22:00
    • On Saturday, 11 February at 7.30 p.m., Amanda Michell, a former chorister of St. Mary’s, Great Dunmow, will be returning to her home town to provide an evening of entertainment. The London based horn player will be joined by other young, talented, professional musicians and the choir of St. Mary’s. The programme will comprise a variety of music composed for the horn as well as a selection of solo vocal and choral music. The programme will feature works by famous composers including Mozart and Strauss alongside works by lesser-known but no less worthy composers.

Amanda is currently pursuing a career as a professional horn player having recently completed her Master of Music Degree at Trinity College of Music, London. Amanda is enjoying working as a freelance musician, having spent the past year gaining experience as a period instrument performer with ensembles such as the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment as well as continuing her development as a modern orchestral horn player. Amanda’s other work has included playing with her brass quintet Lord Nelson Brass, playing on a West End show and a couple of TV appearances.

The proceeds from the concert will be used in the following two ways. A donation will be made to Music and the Deaf, a UK charity which helps the 1 in 7 of the population with a hearing loss to enjoy the world of music. The remainder of the profits will be donated to the St. Mary’s Church Roof Restoration Fund.

The concert starts at 7:30pm Tickets cost £10 each (£6 for school children & students) and are available from The Vicarage (872504).

General News for both parishes (unless stated)

SINCERE APOLOGIES. There has been a mix up over the venues for the Thursday Communions. This week the Service is definitely at St Andrew's. Sorry for the confusion.

JANUARY SERVICE. Dunmow Day Centre, 3pm TODAY. How stressed is your life . . . Are you worried about a loved one or recently bereaved? Do you feel lonely? Are you often sad? Have you ever felt overwhelmed? If you have answered yes to any of these questions why not come along to a service held especially for you and others like you.

FRIENDS OF GREAT DUNMOW CLINIC. "Italian Evening" at Chequers Lane Day Centre on 7 February at 7.00pm. Tickets will cost £12.50 and include a 3 course Italian meal (bring your own drinks and glasses); also music, raffle and table quiz, all Italian-themed of course! Tickets from Wendy Barron (01371 859803).

FUN ON A FEBRUARY NIGHT. What better way is there to shake off the February blues than to enjoy the sound of a live Folk Band and join in a range of well-known Barn Dances? Well St Mary's church folk are organising such an evening for Saturday February 28th (7.00pm for 7.30pm) in the Foakes Hall. The music will be provided by the Most Unexpected Band, and there will be a Licensed Bar and a Raffle.

Tickets, including a Ploughman's Supper, cost £10 per adult, £5 for under-16's, with under-3's free - or a Family Ticket [2 adults & 2 children] costing £25. These will very soon be available from Sonia Lindsey on 876360, or can be booked by e-mail on barndance@stmarysgreatdunmow.org.uk

All funds from the evening will help the work of the local parish church.

CONFIRMATION PREPARATION. The Bishop of Colchester is coming to St Mary's on Ascension Day - Thursday May 21st - to conduct a Confirmation Service for us and, possibly, other folk from our Deanery. So far I have two youngsters who wish to be prepared to be Confirmed this year. Youngsters aged 13+ and adults who wish to take this step forward in their faith need to let David Ainge know before the end of January. Preparation sessions will begin in February.

PETER AND THE FOLK AT OSAKA. Please keep the members of St Mary's linked church of St Paul's, Osaka in your prayers. Peter Mallett has particularly asked for our prayers at this time; St Paul's is reviewing the format of its English-language worship and needs guidance in relation to the development of its ministry to English speaking Christians in the area.

COFFEE ROTA 18th January: Helen Warren & Trudi Wright 25th January: Marion & Anthony Tuttlebee
1st February: Rosemary Ayles, Sheila Stoneman 8th February: David & Sue Walker
