General News for both parishes (unless stated)
CHILDREN'S CORNER IN CHURCH. We would like to reorganise the children's corner in church so that it is brighter and more inviting for the children who use it. Do you have any ideas or requests that we can pass on to the PCC, or would you be able to help with the practical transformation. We would love to hear from you. Please contact Jo Parker (873229) or Jo Hargrave (872995). We are hoping to meet on Wednesday 25th February at 11.30am in church to discuss this. You are welcome to come along.
SPUC COFFEE MORNING, Wednesday 18th February, 10am-12noon in the Catholic Church.
CONFIRMATION PREPARATION. The Bishop of Colchester is coming to St Mary's on Sunday May 24th at 6.00pm to conduct a Confirmation Service for us and, possibly, other folk from our Deanery. So far there are four youngsters who wish to be prepared to be Confirmed this year. Youngsters aged 13+ and adults who wish to take this step forward in their faith need to let David Ainge know. Preparation sessions will begin this month.
FUN ON A FEBRUARY NIGHT. What better way is there to shake off the February blues than to enjoy the sound of a live Folk Band and join in a range of well-known Barn Dances? Well St Mary's church folk are organising such an evening for Saturday February 28th (7.00pm for 7.30pm) in the Foakes Hall. The music will be provided by the Most Unexpected Band, and there will be a Licensed Bar and a Raffle.
Tickets, including a Ploughman's Supper, cost £10 per adult, £5 for under-16's, with under-3's free - or a Family Ticket [2 adults & 2 children] costing £25. Available from Sonia Lindsey on (876360) or Patrick Whittick (876404), or e-mail on barndance@stmarysgreatdunmow.org.uk
All funds from the evening will help the work of St Mary's church. PLEASE also invite your friends along - it's bound to be a great evening!
MARK'S FAREWELL LUNCH. Sunday March 29th is Mark's final Sunday on the Staff here at Barnston & Great Dunmow. He will be Celebrating and Preaching at the 10.30am joint Benefice Communion Service at St Mary's. Following the Service there will be a Farewell Lunch in church. The Menu will be Braintree Road Gammon or Parsonage Downs Salmon, with new potatoes and a variety of salads; followed by a cornucopia of desserts. Soft drinks will be provided, but anything else needs to be brought by the diners. There is no set charge to pay for this meal - but a financial donation on the day will help to cover the costs. However, we need to know how many people to cater for - so please add your name TODAY (before you forget!!) on the lists that are in church.
