  1. In Touch With Music
    • Start date: Sat, February 11th 2012
    • Start time: 19:30
    • End time: 22:00
    • On Saturday, 11 February at 7.30 p.m., Amanda Michell, a former chorister of St. Mary’s, Great Dunmow, will be returning to her home town to provide an evening of entertainment. The London based horn player will be joined by other young, talented, professional musicians and the choir of St. Mary’s. The programme will comprise a variety of music composed for the horn as well as a selection of solo vocal and choral music. The programme will feature works by famous composers including Mozart and Strauss alongside works by lesser-known but no less worthy composers.

Amanda is currently pursuing a career as a professional horn player having recently completed her Master of Music Degree at Trinity College of Music, London. Amanda is enjoying working as a freelance musician, having spent the past year gaining experience as a period instrument performer with ensembles such as the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment as well as continuing her development as a modern orchestral horn player. Amanda’s other work has included playing with her brass quintet Lord Nelson Brass, playing on a West End show and a couple of TV appearances.

The proceeds from the concert will be used in the following two ways. A donation will be made to Music and the Deaf, a UK charity which helps the 1 in 7 of the population with a hearing loss to enjoy the world of music. The remainder of the profits will be donated to the St. Mary’s Church Roof Restoration Fund.

The concert starts at 7:30pm Tickets cost £10 each (£6 for school children & students) and are available from The Vicarage (872504).

General News for both parishes (unless stated)

CHILDREN'S CORNER IN CHURCH. We would like to reorganise the children's corner in St Mary's church so that it is brighter and more inviting for the children who use it. Do you have any ideas or requests that we can pass on to the PCC, or would you be able to help with the practical transformation. We would love to hear from you. Please contact Jo Parker (873229) or Jo Hargrave (872995).

CONFIRMATION PREPARATION. The Bishop of Colchester is coming to St Mary's on Sunday May 24th at 6.00pm to conduct a Confirmation Service for us and, possibly, other folk from our Deanery. So far there are four youngsters who wish to be prepared to be Confirmed this year. Youngsters aged 13+ and adults who wish to take this step forward in their faith need to let David Ainge know. Preparation sessions will begin very soon.

MARK'S FAREWELL LUNCH. Sunday March 29th is Mark's final Sunday on the Staff here at Barnston & Great Dunmow. Following the morning Service there will be a Farewell Lunch in church. There is no set charge to pay for this meal - but a financial donation on the day will help to cover the costs. However, we need to know how many people to cater for - so please add your name TODAY (before you forget!!) on the lists that are in church.

BARN DANCE. We only have around 20 tickets left for what is bound to be a great evening. If you'd like tickets, PLEASE speak to Sonia (876360) or Patrick (876404) as soon as possible!

CAN YOU SPARE AN HOUR ON SATURDAY 28th? We'd be grateful for some help on Saturday afternoon in the Foakes Hall preparing for the Barn Dance, and on Saturday evening helping put food out, selling raffle tickets, etc. If you are able to help, please contact Patrick or Anna.

ST MARY'S Sidesmen's Rotas are available in the pigeon holes.

FRIDAY MARCH 6TH at 1.30pm, St Mary's will host the 2009 local Service for the Women's World Day of Prayer. Vera and Jay are making the arrangements - but help is needed from our ladies who are willing to be Sidesmen and Servers of refreshments. Please don't be shy - offer your help.

COFFEE MORNING, Saturday March 7th, 10.30-12.30, at Alva House, High Easter Road, Barnston. In aid of St Andrew's Flower Fund.

COFFEE ROTA 22nd February: Pat & David Rose 1st March: Pat Mummery & Catherine Sale
