Tomorrow

  1. In Touch With Music
    • Start date: Sat, February 11th 2012
    • Start time: 19:30
    • End time: 22:00
    • On Saturday, 11 February at 7.30 p.m., Amanda Michell, a former chorister of St. Mary’s, Great Dunmow, will be returning to her home town to provide an evening of entertainment. The London based horn player will be joined by other young, talented, professional musicians and the choir of St. Mary’s. The programme will comprise a variety of music composed for the horn as well as a selection of solo vocal and choral music. The programme will feature works by famous composers including Mozart and Strauss alongside works by lesser-known but no less worthy composers.

Amanda is currently pursuing a career as a professional horn player having recently completed her Master of Music Degree at Trinity College of Music, London. Amanda is enjoying working as a freelance musician, having spent the past year gaining experience as a period instrument performer with ensembles such as the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment as well as continuing her development as a modern orchestral horn player. Amanda’s other work has included playing with her brass quintet Lord Nelson Brass, playing on a West End show and a couple of TV appearances.

The proceeds from the concert will be used in the following two ways. A donation will be made to Music and the Deaf, a UK charity which helps the 1 in 7 of the population with a hearing loss to enjoy the world of music. The remainder of the profits will be donated to the St. Mary’s Church Roof Restoration Fund.

The concert starts at 7:30pm Tickets cost £10 each (£6 for school children & students) and are available from The Vicarage (872504).

General News for both parishes (unless stated)

BARN DANCE. The members of the Fundraising Group (Anna, Sonia, Hannah, Sue, Jon, John, Kim & Patrick) would like to thank all those who came along to last Saturday's Barn Dance - and especially those who helped out in the afternoon and/or evening. We estimate we have raised around £1,400 for the church funds - but almost as importantly, everyone had a great time! If anyone is interested in seeing some photos of the event, they're on the church website -http://www.smgd.org.uk

CONFIRMATION PREPARATION. The Bishop of Colchester is coming to St Mary's on Sunday May 24th at 6.00pm to conduct a Confirmation Service for us and, possibly, other folk from our Deanery. So far there are four youngsters who wish to be prepared to be Confirmed this year. Youngsters aged 13+ and adults who wish to take this step forward in their faith need to let David Ainge know. Preparation sessions will begin very soon.

PRAYER SERVICE FOR LENT on Thursday 26th March 2009 at the United Reformed Church, New Street, Great Dunmow at 7.30 - 8.15 pm, followed by coffee. All are welcome.

MARK'S FAREWELL LUNCH. Sign up to be part of Mark's Farewell Lunch on Sunday March 29th. We need to know how many people to cater for - so please add your name TODAY (before you forget!!) on the lists that are in church.

MARK'S FAREWELL PRESENTATION. If you wish to contribute towards the cost of the gifts to be presented to Mark as he leaves us, please hand your contribution to the clergy, Readers or Churchwardens.

CAN YOU GIVE AN HOUR A MONTH to the service of St Mary's? The gallant band of church cleaners is being depleted by a combination of age, weariness and illness. There is space for you on each of the teams. The camaraderie makes the task more pleasant. So, please offer your help via Vera.

THE NEW QUIET GARDEN leaflet is available at the back of the church. Some of the days are filling up quickly so book early to avoid disappointment.

COFFEE ROTA 8th March: Jay Ainge & Vera Davies 15th March: Pam & Ray Cheal
22nd March: Helen Warren & Trudi Wright 29th March: Cynthia & Keith Barber
