  1. In Touch With Music
    • Start date: Sat, February 11th 2012
    • Start time: 19:30
    • End time: 22:00
    • On Saturday, 11 February at 7.30 p.m., Amanda Michell, a former chorister of St. Mary’s, Great Dunmow, will be returning to her home town to provide an evening of entertainment. The London based horn player will be joined by other young, talented, professional musicians and the choir of St. Mary’s. The programme will comprise a variety of music composed for the horn as well as a selection of solo vocal and choral music. The programme will feature works by famous composers including Mozart and Strauss alongside works by lesser-known but no less worthy composers.

Amanda is currently pursuing a career as a professional horn player having recently completed her Master of Music Degree at Trinity College of Music, London. Amanda is enjoying working as a freelance musician, having spent the past year gaining experience as a period instrument performer with ensembles such as the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment as well as continuing her development as a modern orchestral horn player. Amanda’s other work has included playing with her brass quintet Lord Nelson Brass, playing on a West End show and a couple of TV appearances.

The proceeds from the concert will be used in the following two ways. A donation will be made to Music and the Deaf, a UK charity which helps the 1 in 7 of the population with a hearing loss to enjoy the world of music. The remainder of the profits will be donated to the St. Mary’s Church Roof Restoration Fund.

The concert starts at 7:30pm Tickets cost £10 each (£6 for school children & students) and are available from The Vicarage (872504).

General News for both parishes (unless stated)

DAVID KERRY is running the London Marathon on the 26th April, and raising funds for the Alexia Wilson Trust. There is a form at the back of the church if you wish to sponsor him. Thank you.

LENT & EASTER APPEAL. The Archbishops of Canterbury and York have called upon members of our Church of England parishes to stand alongside the church people in Zimbabwe in the midst of the most awful humanitarian crisis. St Andrew's people are using their "Smartie Box Collection" towards this help. After each of the Services at St Mary's today there will be a Retiring Collection for this purpose. Pink Gift Aid envelopes are available to enable the value of your gift to be increased by the Tax Man.

A SERVICE OF REMEMBRANCE for those at St Mary's and St Andrew's who have been bereaved - Sunday, 26th April, at 3pm in St Mary's - to remember those who have died recently. Details are available in both churches, or by telephone from Shirley Walker (872310).

CAN YOU GIVE AN HOUR A MONTH TO THE SERVICE OF ST MARY'S? The gallant band of church cleaners is being depleted by a combination of age, weariness and illness. There is space for you on each of the teams. The camaraderie makes the task more pleasant. So, please offer your help via Vera.

BAPTISM - 19th April. On Sunday 19th April our children Thomas and Elizabeth are being baptised following the family service. We would love to invite as many people as possible to stay and join with us in celebrating, supporting and welcoming them into the family of Christ. Jane & Lee McKean

A MESSAGE FROM MARK JAMES. I would like to say a big thank you for all the cards and messages of good wishes that I received on my final Sunday two weeks ago. Thanks also for the dictionaries and the wonderful picture that will take pride of place in my new rectory. And of course special thanks to the Friends of St Mary for providing the marvellous lunch. Please do keep in touch - my contact details are: The Rectory, 2 Church Road, Kelvedon Hatch, Brentwood, Essex CM14 5TJ. Tel: 01277 373486. Email: revmarkjames@btinternet.com, or keep in touch via Facebook.

The tickets for Mark's Induction Service are now available. Please collect them from the pigeon holes or the churchwardens. The minibuses to the Service will leave St Mary's Church Car Park at 6.15pm.

THE NOTICES CONCERNING THE ANNUAL PAROCHIAL CHURCH MEETINGS are on display. Nominations are now urgently needed for the various Officers. Please pray, seek nominations, pass the suitably signed Nomination Papers to David Ainge, and make plans to come to your appropriate Annual Meeting.
