Just a thought . . .
I am trying to book our holiday accommodation and am mentally going over the needs list, things we have to have, like 2 bedrooms (trust me I have done my time sharing a room with the children), and the wants list, like pool, bar-b-q, shopping mall (a late addition by my 13 year old daughter). However, I am slightly disturbed that WIFI internet access has crept onto the needs list, and even more disturbed that Internet access is a big selling point on most of the accommodation sites I am looking at.
When did it happen that we take the office and all our friends with us on holiday? Surely that was the point (no offence to my friends) of going away for a while, to take time out and to rest. Instead of concentrating on the screen we can leave ourselves free to enjoy the world around us, to witness the magnificence of God’s creation, to have our hearts lifted again by the sound of the sea or the song of the birds, to talk to one another or just to be still.
Jesus needed to find a quiet place to replenish his soul and regain his perspective - we might well do the same.
“Very early next morning, long before daylight, Jesus got up and left the house. He went out of the town to a lonely place, where he prayed.” (Mark 1 v 35).
