    • Start date: Sat, February 11th 2012
    • Start time: 19:30
    • End time: 22:00
    • On Saturday, 11 February at 7.30 p.m., Amanda Michell, a former chorister of St. Mary’s, Great Dunmow, will be returning to her home town to provide an evening of entertainment. The London based horn player will be joined by other young, talented, professional musicians and the choir of St. Mary’s. The programme will comprise a variety of music composed for the horn as well as a selection of solo vocal and choral music. The programme will feature works by famous composers including Mozart and Strauss alongside works by lesser-known but no less worthy composers.

Amanda is currently pursuing a career as a professional horn player having recently completed her Master of Music Degree at Trinity College of Music, London. Amanda is enjoying working as a freelance musician, having spent the past year gaining experience as a period instrument performer with ensembles such as the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment as well as continuing her development as a modern orchestral horn player. Amanda’s other work has included playing with her brass quintet Lord Nelson Brass, playing on a West End show and a couple of TV appearances.

The proceeds from the concert will be used in the following two ways. A donation will be made to Music and the Deaf, a UK charity which helps the 1 in 7 of the population with a hearing loss to enjoy the world of music. The remainder of the profits will be donated to the St. Mary’s Church Roof Restoration Fund.

The concert starts at 7:30pm Tickets cost £10 each (£6 for school children & students) and are available from The Vicarage (872504).

General News for both parishes (unless stated)

WE HAVE just heard the news of the deaths of Rachel Matthews (wife of the late Canon John Matthews) and Denis Fulcher (leader of the Sunday School in the 1960s). Please pray for their families and friends.

HOLIDAY CLUB 2009. COUNT YOUR BLESSINGS. Tuesday 11th and Thursday 13th August. 9.30am - 12pm @ URC Hall. £2.00 per session per child. Collect registration form from school reception OR The 31st August shop OR contact Jo on 872995.

YOU CAN NEVER HAVE TOO MANY CAKES. This is the cry of those who will be preparing to sell cakes at the Countess of Warwick Show at the end of August. We move mountains of cakes - so we need to ask our faithful cake bakers to start baking very soon. Cakes can be stored in freezers until the Show week-end. Further information, and ideas from Vera Davies.

CONGRATULATIONS. Daniel Deakins has become a Prefect at Helena Romanes School and Jessamy Dodd is now a Prefect at Chelmsford Girls High School. Well done to them both.

ON THEIR BIKES. Today, Tom Deakins (and 600 other international riders) sets off on his second London-Edinburgh-London (1400km) bike ride. He hopes to complete this arduous ride in less than 108 hours, and thereby beat his previous best. Hope it goes well, Tom.

Also, Gwynn Davies rides from London to Cambridge today - all part of his Mayoral Charity fund-raising endeavour. Best wishes to you, too, Gwynn.

PARTY WITH A DIFFERENCE SEPTEMBER 6TH, 3.30PM - 5.30PM. Families who have had children baptised in the last year are being invited to a child-friendly puppet-led Service followed by tea & games in the Vicarage garden. We would love church people to help with activity games for the children, and to prepare & serve tea for everyone. Offers of help to Mary Jensen (873100) or Jay Ainge (873504). Thank you.

RIDE & STRIDE. This year's Friends of Essex Churches Sponsored Ride & Stride takes place on Saturday September 12th. Walk or cycle round Essex and East London churches to raise money for your church or chapel, and the Friends of Essex Churches Trust.
