Tomorrow

  1. In Touch With Music
    • Start date: Sat, February 11th 2012
    • Start time: 19:30
    • End time: 22:00
    • On Saturday, 11 February at 7.30 p.m., Amanda Michell, a former chorister of St. Mary’s, Great Dunmow, will be returning to her home town to provide an evening of entertainment. The London based horn player will be joined by other young, talented, professional musicians and the choir of St. Mary’s. The programme will comprise a variety of music composed for the horn as well as a selection of solo vocal and choral music. The programme will feature works by famous composers including Mozart and Strauss alongside works by lesser-known but no less worthy composers.

Amanda is currently pursuing a career as a professional horn player having recently completed her Master of Music Degree at Trinity College of Music, London. Amanda is enjoying working as a freelance musician, having spent the past year gaining experience as a period instrument performer with ensembles such as the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment as well as continuing her development as a modern orchestral horn player. Amanda’s other work has included playing with her brass quintet Lord Nelson Brass, playing on a West End show and a couple of TV appearances.

The proceeds from the concert will be used in the following two ways. A donation will be made to Music and the Deaf, a UK charity which helps the 1 in 7 of the population with a hearing loss to enjoy the world of music. The remainder of the profits will be donated to the St. Mary’s Church Roof Restoration Fund.

The concert starts at 7:30pm Tickets cost £10 each (£6 for school children & students) and are available from The Vicarage (872504).

General News for both parishes (unless stated)

MANY, MANY CONGRATULATIONS. It was agreed and announced at the meeting of the Dunmow Town Council last Thursday evening that Dunmow Christian Care has been awarded the Dunmow Town Award for its services to the community. Three other local citizens were also honoured in this way. All four Award Certificates will be presented by Mayor Gwynn Davies on the 13th October. In the meantime, we send our heartiest congratulations to everyone involved in Dunmow Christian Care - the Award is very richly deserved.

SPECTACULAR GIFTS. Over recent months, St Mary's has benefited greatly from Eileen Bell's great generosity. Firstly, it was her substantial gift in her lifetime that enabled us to expand our church heating system - the product of this work will become evident shortly when the system is "fired in anger" as the coolness of Autumn and Winter impact upon us. Secondly, her Solicitors have passed on to the PCC the sum of £60,000 from her Estate. This wonderfully generous gift is given for the general purposes of Dunmow Parish Church, and the PCC is giving careful consideration about its use.

MORE GOOD NEWS. Last week's Coffee Morning in Barnston for McMillan Nurses raised a magnificent £585.50. Well done to everyone involved - and many thanks to Ann Graham for hosting it.

TREASURER & PR OFFICER NEEDED. The Friends of the Great Dunmow Maltings are urgently looking for a Treasurer and a Publicity Officer to assist with their work and attend their two-monthly committee meetings. If you are interested, please contact Cynthia Barber on 01371 872428 for further details.

THE FIGG'S GARAGE SALE. As the Chris & Helen Figg, and their boys, prepare to emigrate to New Zealand, there will be a sale of their household and garage goods next Sunday (11th October). The items include bedroom furniture, sofas, toys, games, books and many other household items. The Sale is to be held at 7 Windmill Close, Great Dunmow from 2pm to 5pm. A proportion of the proceeds will be donated to St Mary's Church.

NEXT SUNDAY EVENING. At the one-off new time of 6.30pm, St Mary's hosts the Harvest Service for the Essex Young Farmers. Anyone can come - indeed, everyone is invited. Come and welcome these visitors - and join with them in thanking God for his provision for our needs.

COFFEE ROTA 4th October: Wendy Bowler & Rosemary Ayles 11th October: Nan & John Doe
18th October: Glenys Parratt & Caroline Abbott 25th October: Anna Beecroft & Sue Berry
