    • On Saturday, 11 February at 7.30 p.m., Amanda Michell, a former chorister of St. Mary’s, Great Dunmow, will be returning to her home town to provide an evening of entertainment. The London based horn player will be joined by other young, talented, professional musicians and the choir of St. Mary’s. The programme will comprise a variety of music composed for the horn as well as a selection of solo vocal and choral music. The programme will feature works by famous composers including Mozart and Strauss alongside works by lesser-known but no less worthy composers.

Amanda is currently pursuing a career as a professional horn player having recently completed her Master of Music Degree at Trinity College of Music, London. Amanda is enjoying working as a freelance musician, having spent the past year gaining experience as a period instrument performer with ensembles such as the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment as well as continuing her development as a modern orchestral horn player. Amanda’s other work has included playing with her brass quintet Lord Nelson Brass, playing on a West End show and a couple of TV appearances.

The proceeds from the concert will be used in the following two ways. A donation will be made to Music and the Deaf, a UK charity which helps the 1 in 7 of the population with a hearing loss to enjoy the world of music. The remainder of the profits will be donated to the St. Mary’s Church Roof Restoration Fund.

The concert starts at 7:30pm Tickets cost £10 each (£6 for school children & students) and are available from The Vicarage (872504).

General News for both parishes (unless stated)

MAJOR CELEBRATION SERVICE - TODAY. The Rev. Peter Street reaches his 50th Anniversary of Ordination today. The 6pm Service will be an enormous Celebration with his family, church, town and county well represented. It would be really good if St Mary's and St Andrew's churches are very well represented - after all, we have benefited greatly over the years from Peter's assistance and ministry.

ST MARY'S SIDESMENS' ROTAS are now in the pigeon holes. Please collect your copy

ST ANDREW'S CHRISTMAS BAZAAR - NEXT SATURDAY. On December 5th at 2.00pm Barnston Village Hall will be full of all the things you'd expect to see at a Christmas Bazaar - home-made cakes and jams, gifts for Christmas, books, videos & CDs, games for everyone, and Father Christmas. Refreshments will soothe tired bodies, and the proceeds of the Bazaar will help St Andrew's church finances.

NEXT SUNDAY AFTERNOON. The first of December's one-off Services is the Christingle at St Mary's on the 6th December at 3.00pm. This is always extremely popular - but don't let that put you off coming - there will still be lots of room! This is certainly an occasion for children, youngsters and adults of all ages. So come and share in this annual celebration of Jesus, the Light of the World.

CLOCK WINDER AT ST MARY'S. On January 1st 2010, Mike Saines will retire from his position as official Tower Clock Winder at St Mary's after 27 years' service. The PCC is seeking ways to mechanise this task, but in the meantime we need someone to step into Mike's shoes until the mechanization is complete.

CO-ORDINATOR FOR THE ST MARY'S BRASS CLEANING ROTA. Grahame Thomas has stepped down from this role after 15 years in post. We need someone who will continue his good work with immediate effect. The length of responsibility is negotiable!!

SHORT-TERM VACANCY - DELIVERER OF OUTLOOK. There is a need for temporary cover for a delivery round of Outlook for January, February, March and April. 58 magazines need to be delivered on the Woodlands Park Estate - to houses in Woodlands Park Drive, Barberry Path, Aspen Terrace, Laburnum Road, Walnut Drive and Holm Drive. If you can help, please contact Patrick Whittick (876404). Thank you.

FAITH IN ACTION - GIFTS WITH A DIFFERENCE. The brochures showing alternative suggestions for Christmas presents are now available at the back of St Mary's.

COFFEE ROTA 29th November: Cynthia & Keith Barber 6th December: Sue & David Walker
13th December: Elaine Peck 20th December: Joy Cash/Vera Davies
