    • Start date: Sat, February 11th 2012
    • Start time: 19:30

    • On Saturday, 11 February at 7.30 p.m., Amanda Michell, a former chorister of St. Mary’s, Great Dunmow, will be returning to her home town to provide an evening of entertainment. The London based horn player will be joined by other young, talented, professional musicians and the choir of St. Mary’s. The programme will comprise a variety of music composed for the horn as well as a selection of solo vocal and choral music. The programme will feature works by famous composers including Mozart and Strauss alongside works by lesser-known but no less worthy composers.

Amanda is currently pursuing a career as a professional horn player having recently completed her Master of Music Degree at Trinity College of Music, London. Amanda is enjoying working as a freelance musician, having spent the past year gaining experience as a period instrument performer with ensembles such as the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment as well as continuing her development as a modern orchestral horn player. Amanda’s other work has included playing with her brass quintet Lord Nelson Brass, playing on a West End show and a couple of TV appearances.

The proceeds from the concert will be used in the following two ways. A donation will be made to Music and the Deaf, a UK charity which helps the 1 in 7 of the population with a hearing loss to enjoy the world of music. The remainder of the profits will be donated to the St. Mary’s Church Roof Restoration Fund.

The concert starts at 7:30pm Tickets cost £10 each (£6 for school children & students) and are available from The Vicarage (872504).

General News for both parishes (unless stated)

JANUARY SERVICE, DUNMOW DAY CENTRE, 3PM TODAY. If you feel stressed, worried about a loved one, recently bereaved or overwhelmed, why not think about coming along to this service. Further details from Jo Hargrave 872995.

BEST IN NEPAL. A few months ago, Mike Best accompanied a group of Scouts on a trekking trip in the mountains of Nepal - stunning scenery; lung-busting walking; and a trip of a life-time. Now we can share the adventure. Mike is to tell the story, show the pictures, handle the artifacts and generally re-walk the adventure in St Mary's Room on Sunday 24th January at 3.00pm. Come and enjoy a heart-warming afternoon.

THE FRIENDS ARE 25. Come and celebrate The Friends of St Mary's 25th Anniversary on Sunday 14th February. Join in a Service of Thanksgiving; see the displays of the things The Friends do; meet past and present Friends - and join them if you like; but most of all, come and say "Thank you" for all that The Friends have done over these 25 years.

SCRIPTURE UNION MATERIALS. There are some SU guides on the table by the south door of St Mary's. These are to help anyone who's interested in finding ways of understanding what they read in the Bible. Further information is available directly from http://www.scriptureunion.org.uk or, more locally, from sue.pegrum@stmarysgreatdunmow.org.uk.

RESIDENTIAL HOMES. Every month we take Services in 7 Residential Homes in Great Dunmow, for a total of about 70 people. Some Services are Communions, others are Hymn Services. The residents who come to these Services value this external link enormously. Sometimes there are 2 or 3 people who go to take the Services - sometimes it's just 1. If you would like to come along to meet the people, talk about this and that, and help just by being there - please speak to David Ainge.

COFFEE ROTA 17th January: Helen Warren & Trudi Wright 24th January: Marion Tuttlebee & Jenny Salisbury
31st January: Cynthia & Keith Barber 7th February: Rosemary Ayles & Sheila Stoneman
