Tomorrow

  1. In Touch With Music
    • Start date: Sat, February 11th 2012
    • Start time: 19:30
    • End time: 22:00
    • On Saturday, 11 February at 7.30 p.m., Amanda Michell, a former chorister of St. Mary’s, Great Dunmow, will be returning to her home town to provide an evening of entertainment. The London based horn player will be joined by other young, talented, professional musicians and the choir of St. Mary’s. The programme will comprise a variety of music composed for the horn as well as a selection of solo vocal and choral music. The programme will feature works by famous composers including Mozart and Strauss alongside works by lesser-known but no less worthy composers.

Amanda is currently pursuing a career as a professional horn player having recently completed her Master of Music Degree at Trinity College of Music, London. Amanda is enjoying working as a freelance musician, having spent the past year gaining experience as a period instrument performer with ensembles such as the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment as well as continuing her development as a modern orchestral horn player. Amanda’s other work has included playing with her brass quintet Lord Nelson Brass, playing on a West End show and a couple of TV appearances.

The proceeds from the concert will be used in the following two ways. A donation will be made to Music and the Deaf, a UK charity which helps the 1 in 7 of the population with a hearing loss to enjoy the world of music. The remainder of the profits will be donated to the St. Mary’s Church Roof Restoration Fund.

The concert starts at 7:30pm Tickets cost £10 each (£6 for school children & students) and are available from The Vicarage (872504).

General News for both parishes (unless stated)

CHORAL EVENSONG TODAY at 6.00pm, St Mary's will host a Service of Choral Evensong to celebrate the Annunciation of our Lord. The preacher at this splendid Service is to be the Rev. Dr. Martin Kitchen, minister in the South Roding parishes and former Dean of Derby Cathedral. Come and celebrate the "start" of the Jesus story - and in 9 months you'll be welcome to celebrate his birth!

THE QUIET GARDEN programme for 2010 is now available at the back of the church.

ARE YOU ON OUR CHURCH ELECTORAL ROLL? Pretty well anyone who regards St Andrew's or St Mary's as "their church" can apply to be on the Roll. Anne Hanney and Gerald Crowley have Application Forms. Now's a very good time to join - just in time for the Annual Church Meetings in April!

TOPICAL STUDIES IN LENT. Just one more session to go in the Churches Together's Lent studies! Under the overall heading of "All Change on the Weather Front" we are seeking to understand some of the issues relating to Climate Change. If you haven't been, make sure you come to the last one on March 24th at 8pm at the URC church. The theme is Hope in God's future, Christian discipleship in the context of climate change, and the speaker is the Rev Mike Shrubsole.

HOLY WEEK WILL SOON BE HERE. As ever it begins on the Monday evening (March 29th) at 8pm at St Anne Line with the Stations of the Cross.

CONGRATULATIONS. On Wednesday (24th March) Maurice & Doris Saich celebrate their Diamond Wedding Anniversary - 60 years to the day since they said to each other "I do". Congratulations to them both.

ROSEBOWL QUIZ. The Dunmow Rotary Club is holding its annual Rosebowl Quiz on Friday March 26th (7.00pm for a 7.30pm start) in the Foakes Hall. Tickets are £8 each, and tables have 8 people - already 18 Teams have entered, so hurry if you'd like to be involved. Tickets are available from Frank Warboys (859822).
