    • Start date: Sat, February 11th 2012
    • Start time: 19:30
    • End time: 22:00
    • On Saturday, 11 February at 7.30 p.m., Amanda Michell, a former chorister of St. Mary’s, Great Dunmow, will be returning to her home town to provide an evening of entertainment. The London based horn player will be joined by other young, talented, professional musicians and the choir of St. Mary’s. The programme will comprise a variety of music composed for the horn as well as a selection of solo vocal and choral music. The programme will feature works by famous composers including Mozart and Strauss alongside works by lesser-known but no less worthy composers.

Amanda is currently pursuing a career as a professional horn player having recently completed her Master of Music Degree at Trinity College of Music, London. Amanda is enjoying working as a freelance musician, having spent the past year gaining experience as a period instrument performer with ensembles such as the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment as well as continuing her development as a modern orchestral horn player. Amanda’s other work has included playing with her brass quintet Lord Nelson Brass, playing on a West End show and a couple of TV appearances.

The proceeds from the concert will be used in the following two ways. A donation will be made to Music and the Deaf, a UK charity which helps the 1 in 7 of the population with a hearing loss to enjoy the world of music. The remainder of the profits will be donated to the St. Mary’s Church Roof Restoration Fund.

The concert starts at 7:30pm Tickets cost £10 each (£6 for school children & students) and are available from The Vicarage (872504).

General News for both parishes (unless stated)

STROKE AWARENESS DAY. Saturday 17th April is Stroke Awareness Day. Between 9.30am & 12 noon, the United Reformed Church in New Street is hosting a free Blood Pressure Check service. In each of the recent years over 100 Dunmow citizens have taken advantage of this service, and been given either peace of mind or advice to go to see their GP. It makes great sense - so take advantage of this offer.

ST ANDREW'S COFFEE MORNING. Ann Graham is organising a Coffee Morning on Saturday 24th April to raise funds for the St Andrew's Flower Fund. She will be on hand to welcome visitors to her home at Alva House, High Easter Road, Barnston from 10.00am to mid-day. A very warm welcome awaits you.

CHELMSFORD MALE VOICE CHOIR IN CONCERT. The Chelmsford Male Voice Choir will present their own inimitable music in a concert at St. Mary's Church on Saturday 24th April, starting at 7.30 pm. This concert will also feature Pam Warren and Jo Wood on piano and woodwind instruments. Tickets cost £8 each (to include a glass of wine or soft drink) and are available at Banana Travel, Foakes House and from Gwynn Davies.

A SERVICE OF REMEMBRANCE will be held on Sunday, 25th April, at 3pm in St Mary's for those in our parishes who have been bereaved to remember those who have died recently. Details are available in both churches, or by telephone from Shirley Walker (872310).

NOMINATIONS NEEDED FOR THE ANNUAL MEETINGS. On April 25th and 28th respectively St Andrew's and St Mary's will be holding their Annual Parochial Church Meetings. Nominations are now needed for electing our Churchwardens and Parochial Church Councillors, and filling casual vacancies in our Deanery Synod representation. Please think, pray and consider very carefully who you would like to nominate to these positions.

COPPER FLOOR TILES. As part of the very attractive programme of artistic work in association with the Diary of a Country Churchyard, St Mary's is displaying the very attractive copper floor tiles designed by Grenville Davey. When you come forward for Communion you will not fail to see them! Enjoy them while they're here.
