Tomorrow

  1. In Touch With Music
    • Start date: Sat, February 11th 2012
    • Start time: 19:30
    • End time: 22:00
    • On Saturday, 11 February at 7.30 p.m., Amanda Michell, a former chorister of St. Mary’s, Great Dunmow, will be returning to her home town to provide an evening of entertainment. The London based horn player will be joined by other young, talented, professional musicians and the choir of St. Mary’s. The programme will comprise a variety of music composed for the horn as well as a selection of solo vocal and choral music. The programme will feature works by famous composers including Mozart and Strauss alongside works by lesser-known but no less worthy composers.

Amanda is currently pursuing a career as a professional horn player having recently completed her Master of Music Degree at Trinity College of Music, London. Amanda is enjoying working as a freelance musician, having spent the past year gaining experience as a period instrument performer with ensembles such as the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment as well as continuing her development as a modern orchestral horn player. Amanda’s other work has included playing with her brass quintet Lord Nelson Brass, playing on a West End show and a couple of TV appearances.

The proceeds from the concert will be used in the following two ways. A donation will be made to Music and the Deaf, a UK charity which helps the 1 in 7 of the population with a hearing loss to enjoy the world of music. The remainder of the profits will be donated to the St. Mary’s Church Roof Restoration Fund.

The concert starts at 7:30pm Tickets cost £10 each (£6 for school children & students) and are available from The Vicarage (872504).

TONIGHT'S EVENING SERVICE. Today is Pentecost Sunday. At 6.00pm Rosemary Drew is leading a special Evening Service for Pentecost - the theme of which is the Gifts of the Spirit. This will be a splendid opportunity to thank God for his presence, his Gifts and his power - in a service that will involve familiar uplifting music and opportunities for prayer and study.

50TH ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATION. On Saturday 5th June, Barnston Village Hall will host an Open Day to celebrate the 50th Anniversary of the opening of the Hall. This is the only civic facility in the village, and plays an important part in providing space for community groups and family parties. Why not drop in sometime between 10.00am and 4.00pm and share in the festivities?

MIDSUMMER MADNESS TREASURE HUNT AND STRAWBERRY CREAM TEA, Saturday 26th June, 2pm. Arrive at St. Mary's Room to sign up and get instructions for the hunt. Teas will be served from 3pm. £3 per entry to the treasure hunt (max. 5 people per entry) & £3 per strawberry cream tea. Number of entries to the treasure hunt will be limited. No unaccompanied minors. All profits go to St. Mary's church funds. For any further information contact Patrick on 07759 - 317951 or email madness@smgd.org.uk

Individuals are invited to nominate their favourite hymns before June 13th - and the most popular will be included in the Evening Service at 6.00pm on the 4th July. The funds raised sponsoring this event will be put to the cost of automating the winding mechanism of the Tower Clock.

ST ANDREW'S EXTRA SPECIAL CONCERT. Tickets, costing £10 each, are now available for The Flutes of Love Concert at St Andrew's on Saturday 31st July. A glorious evening of Early English Music and refreshing drinks & fresh fruit kebabs in the interval will make this an evening to remember.
