Diary of a Country Churchyard - July 2010
The Diary of a Country Churchyard is a joint project between Dunmow Library and St. Mary’s Church.
Stone Conservation Workshop Day - Update
Skilled stone conservator, Antonia Hockton, ran a successful, great practical workshop day on 12th June. With the help of 8 enthusiastic participants 4 of the old table top tombs have been carefully cleaned and simple repairs carried out. Antonia’s enthusiasm for her craft and depth of knowledge on stone work meant that the group learnt much during the day. If anyone would like to get involved in the continuing conservation programme in the Churchyard please get in touch.
What’s On In July?
The Brownies will be creating the Diary Library Display this month. They are working towards a wildlife badge and are finding out about the bats that live in the Church and the Churchyard. Sylvia Jiggins of the Essex Bat Society will be giving a special talk to the children and the Library display will enable us all to learn more about these amazing mammals.
Did you get married at St. Mary’s?
We are looking for wedding photos taken outside St Mary’s Church. If you, or any of your family or friends got married at St. Mary’s please get in touch. We have teamed up with Mike Perry of David Lipson Photography for this project. We hope to create displays both in the Library and at the shop in August. We are on the search for the photographs going back as far as possible, to be shown alongside more recent pictures. This promises to be a fascinating local history project. For it to work we need your help in finding and contributing photographs.
