Diary of a Country Churchyard - September 2010
The Diary of a Country Churchyard is a joint project between Dunmow Library and St. Mary’s Church.
Weddings at St. Mary’s Update
Due to the wonderful response to the request for photos and memories from weddings that took place at St Mary’s, we are still compiling pages for the Diary. Photographs were submitted dating from 1926 to the present day. Special thanks go to Steve Parker and Chris Santon at Just Us Digital for their fantastic work in designing and printing the 6ft poster for the August Library display. Our thanks again to Mike & Sue Perry and David Lipson Photography and to all the families who have contributed to this project.
Bat Evening
On Saturday 4 September Sylvia and Roger Jiggins from the Essex Bat Society will be holding a special bat event. It will start at 7.15pm in St Mary’s. Bats may emerge and fly inside the Church in which case we will remain in the Church for a while watching them and listening to their calls on the bat Detectors. Then we will go outside and hope to see/hear bats around the Churchyard. Finish will be 8.30ish depending on bat activity and human interest. People should bring torches so they can see where they are walking when outside in the dark. Places are limited so please book in advance – please see below for contact details.
In the Library this Month
Our thanks go to the children, parents, helpers and the leaders at the Churches Together in Dunmow Holiday Club who have created artwork for the September Library display during their 3 day August event. On one day a family picnic took place at St. Mary’s and activities included finding out more about the trees in the Churchyard and creating leaf rubbings. These can be seen on their wonderful collage, which celebrates the Club’s “Rumble in the Jungle” theme.
From Where I Stand
Artist Stella Eldon has been invited to create a piece of art work for the Diary project in collaboration with people who regularly visit the Churchyard as they have family or friends buried there. Stella will be at St. Mary’s Centre on Sunday 12 Sept from 2pm please do drop in, alternatively please do get in touch via Catherine Sale.
